Alternative Festival now on in Mallorca

Mallorca always surprises us with exciting cultural events. Currently, the "Festival Alternatilla"  is in full swing and continues until mid-May. Absolute highlights are rock legend Lou Reed, and this time the Scottish indie band Franz Ferdinand.

Photography, theatre, cinema and music will be featured in mid-April to late May Events with events across the island.

The highlight is certainly the concert by rock legend Lou Reed (April 30, Teatro Principal, Palma, 15-35 €), his only concert in Spain under the title "A night of deep noise", along with his trio Metal Machine. Information about the tour can be found on his homepage www.loureed.com / metal trio machine . The appearance of the of 1968 former frontman of the cult group "Velvet Underground" will be supported by a photo-exhibition "Romanticism in Lou Reed" (Museum It Baluard) and a screening of his first documentary "Red Shirley," in the middle of April at the documentary film festival " Visions du Réel "in Nyon. The short 23-minute film, Lou Reed has sensitively made with his 100 year old cousin Shirley about her life. The Polish Jewish woman with the nickname "Red Shirley tells the story of their emigration from Europe to America and speaks about her commitment to the emancipation movement and the trade union and industrial action in the United States. The critics who have seen the film in Switzerland in advance rave, "a delight" (29.04., Free admission, it Baluard).

The second highlight is the appearance of Franz Ferdinand. The Scots are considered one of the most successful indie bands. Guitarrist Nick McCarthy went to school in Bavaria in Bad Aibling, studied in Munich, then piano and bass and was a member of the German band Embryo Others (1 May at the Palma Arena, 25 €). Other artists appearing at Alternatilla are The Posies, The Scorchers, West of Rome, Bear in Heaven, Juan Perro, Damon and Naomi, and various local bands. Most unusually, we're looking forward to the Indian sitar-Star Baluji Shrivastav, who has worked with Annie Lennox, Massive Attack and Oasis has been working together (May 20, Casal Solleric, admission free).

Tickets for all events of the festival are Alternatilla thanks to support from the Ministry of Culture quite affordable, even some of the events are free. Info at www.alternatilla.com .
