Pollensa fiestas

Starting on Monday the 28th is the 'Patrona' fiesta week in Pollensa.
The highlight is the re-enactment of the centuries old battle between the colourful Moorish invaders led by Dragu and the local Christians dressed in white and led by Juan Mas.
It is a running battle which starts in the streets of the old town and culminates in the sports ground outside the town where the two sides charge each other and some local 'scores' can also be settled!
In the end the Christians always win inspire of fighting mainly with pitchforks and clubs.
Wear old clothes, as the streets are crowded and spectators sometimes get involved, the ladies can be 'tarred' if they are wearing white!

Balearics President against oil prospecting in the Balearic sea

In a strongly worded speech at the AGM dinner of the Balearic Nautical Business Association (AENIB) last week the President of the Balearic parliament, Snr Bauza, strongly condemned the Madrid governments plans to allow oil prospecting around the Balearic Islands, affirming his commitment to promoting tourism in all it's forms as the main driver of the Islands economy.
We fully endorse his stance against the oil giants and welcome his support for the Nautical business sector.

Festive greetings!

Here we are at the end of another 'season in the sun' which has had a late flourish in December but, storms are due again on Friday!

We love the contrasts of weather in Mallorca, distinct seasons matched with different pastimes.

Winter snow in the Tramuntana with a roast Lamb lunch in Escorca,
Spring Almond blossom and a run out on the Harley in April!
Then the Balmy Summer on the crystal clear waters and finally the Autumn, when we stock up with wood for the fire and red wine for supper!

From all of us here at Mallorca Cruising we wish you a peaceful and relaxing Christmas & a successful 2014

Indian Summer!

It was the warmest October for some years apparently and it certainly extended the season!
But now the first Autumn storm has arrived and after a busy Summer, we have put the boats 'to bed' for the Winter.
It has been a good season for most and the 'green shoots' of growth seem to be appearing in the Spanish economy so here's hoping
for an even better 2014!

Temporada bueno?

Well, it seemed like a good Summer, there was hot weather, the beaches, Marinas and restaurants were busy and journey times were doubled as usual by the number of hire cars, coaches & white delivery vans on the roads!
Were all these visitors spending their money though, or was it an increase in 'all inclusive' activity?
We have had a busy 3 months but the season seemed to start late and finish early, there was a significant increase in 'last minute' or spontaneous activity but hey, we take it all the same.
Time to ease off a little now and start planning for 2014 especially with the impending changes to the Matriculation tax applied on charter boats!
